Alappuzha to become model tourism destination
The district of Alappuzha would soon be made a model tourism destination with the travel and tourism fraternity deciding to implement various environment friendly programmes. A meeting of tour operators and owners of hotels and houseboats was recently held in the district. The meeting attended by Mr. B. Suman, Director, Kerala Tourism chalked out various programmes for making the district a cent-percent eco-friendly destination.
It was decided in the meeting to implement the 'zero plastic'programme strictly in the tourism sector. An effective waste disposal programme has also been planned. According to this, the stakeholders would set up biogas plants in their premises. Solid waste including plastics would be recycled. Kerala Tourism would highlight Alappuzha in its promotional programmes, said Mr. Suman. He also informed that a waste disposal plant would be set up for houseboats at Punnamada. High-level meetings will be held soon for giving a final shape for the model tourism project.
