Puli Kali - part of annual harvest festival of kerala, Onam

In Malayalam, the official language of Kerala Puli means Tiger & Kali means a game. Pulikali is also known as Kaduvakali and this art form can be commonly seen during Onam season, an annual harvest festival, celebrated mainly in Kerala. Performers painted like Tigers in bright yellow, red and black, dance to the beats of instruments like Udukku and Thakil.

Different entertainment clubs in the city and will compete each other to win the tiger competition. It attracts thousands of people to the city. Onam is an annual harvest festival that falls during the month of Chingam (August-September as per the Gregorian calendar), the first month of the Malayalam calendar. This festival lasts for ten days. Though it is essentially a harvest festival of Malayalees, mythologically it is linked to Malayalee-Hindu folk tales. Like many other religious festivals in India, Onam is celebrated by people across all castes and faiths.
